Located on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada and the name of the school is named after the first explorer, Simon Fraser University opened on September 9, 1965 with 2,500 students.
The famous Canadian architects Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey designed the original Burnaby Mountain campus to promote interdisciplinary links between students and researchers. With this openness and desire to innovate informs SFU's current vision: to become Canada's highest community research university.
The university boasts of three special campuses in Burnaby (Main Campus), Surrey and Vancouver with 30,000 students, 6,500 faculty and staff and 130,000 alumni, SFU has grown into one of the world's leading teaching and research university. Always ranked among Canada's leading comprehensive universities and ranked among top 100 “Times Higher Education” world universities under 50 years, SFU is also the first Canadian member of the National University Sports Association, The world's largest college sports association.
