Introduction

The University of Alberta (also known as U of A and UAlberta) is a public research university located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was founded in 1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first leader of Alberta and Henry Marshall Tory, its first president.

The university consists of six campuses in Edmonton, Augustana Campus in Camrose and a staff center in downtown Calgary, South Campus is for the university’s agricultural research and has Saville community sports, 32,516 square meters , Saint-Jean campus is the French-language area and Enterprise Square serves for adult students belonging to the Faculty of Extension. The North campus is the main campus of the school, which includes 150 buildings covering 50 city blocks on the edge southern of the North Saskatchewan River valley, directly through from downtown Edmonton. The school has 39,000 students from Canada to 150 other countries participating in 400 programs at 18 faculties.

UAlberta has been accredited by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings as one of the top five universities in Canada and is one of the top 100 universities worldwide. According to the QS World University Rankings 2014, the leading faculty in the region at UAlberta is the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (ranked 89th in the world) and the top ranked subject is English Language and Literature.
